Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing reports, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with relevant education sector regulations and accounting standards (such as Australian Accounting Standards – AASB).

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and analyse financial statements in accordance with AASB and organisational policies

Manage accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities

Monitor budgets and report variances to management

Assist in the preparation of annual audits and liaise with external auditors

Ensure compliance with taxation, superannuation, and statutory obligations (e.g. BAS, FBT, GST)

Support grant and funding reporting for government and private education programs

Collaborate with school departments or faculty units for budget planning and forecasting

Maintain accurate and timely financial records and reports

Provide financial advice to non-financial stakeholders within the organisation

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

CPA or CA qualification (or working towards)

Minimum 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the education or non-profit sector

Strong understanding of AASB standards, payroll legislation, and Australian tax laws

Experience with accounting software (e.g. MYOB, Xero, TechOne, or similar ERP systems)

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools

Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills

Strong interpersonal and communication abilities

Desirable

Previous experience in a school, TAFE, university or RTO environment

Understanding of education funding models (e.g. DET, HECS/HELP, VET funding)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $52,002.24 – $75,000.00 per year
