Why This Role Matters
We're seeking a strategic and innovative Category Manager to take ownership of one of our most pivotal categories - recreation. This is a high-profile role where you'll influence the category's go-to-market strategy, working closely with the Marketing team to make a tangible impact on sales, margin, and overall market position.
At Clark Rubber, you'll have true end-to-end responsibility — from concept and strategy through to implementation — with the freedom to grow the category to its full potential.
Your Impact & Responsibilities
This is a high-ownership role where you'll manage the full product lifecycle, from sourcing and supplier negotiations to marketing execution and sales growth. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Category Leadership: Develop and execute strategies to achieve sales and margin budgets for the category.
- Market Trends & Innovation: Identify key market trends and bring new, innovative products to life.
- Product Sourcing & Supplier Management: Source high-quality, value-for-money products (primarily from overseas suppliers) and manage supplier relationships and trading terms.
- Training & Franchise Support: Develop training programs to ensure in-store staff are the most knowledgeable experts in Australia.
- End-to-End Ownership: Take full responsibility for the category from strategy to execution, with autonomy to implement ideas and drive results.
Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of category management or buying experience.
- Strong commercial and numerical acumen — get excited about numbers and exceeding sales/profit budgets.
- Solid experience in range planning, strategy development, and product lifecycle management.
- Knowledge of overseas sourcing and importing.
- Experience managing supplier relationships and negotiating trading terms.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Experience in a retail franchise business is advantageous.
- Previous experience in managing Hardware, Seasonal, or Recreation categories will be highly regarded.
- Developing retail advertising and promotional campaigns.
