About Us

Smithfield Cattle Company is a family owned, values driven, cattle and farming operation based in Southern Queensland. We operate two 20,000 head feedlots near Proston and Goondiwindi, along with various grazing and farming operations.

Smithfield are currently seeking an experienced Livestock Hand at our Sapphire Feedlot near Goondiwindi, who has a genuine interest in the Feedlot industry and is willing to commit to our mission of producing top-quality beef for our customers. You will be joining a team responsible for the daily welfare and husbandry of the cattle in our care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Daily livestock handling and pen moves with emphasis on low-stress stock handling.
  • Animal health management to meet quality assurance requirements.
  • Accurate record keeping with a high importance on data integrity and quality.
  • Assist in maintaining company standards of animal welfare and WHS responsibilities.
  • Contributing to other areas of the feedlot as required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong horsemanship skills, own horses suitable for feedlot work plus tack.
  • An understanding of animal health and welfare.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Excellent record keeping skills.
  • Effective teamwork skills.
  • Current drivers licence.
  • Feedlot experience is advantageous.
