New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports.

About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Ventilation & Projects Engineer to join our Mining Technical Services Team. Reporting to the Manager Technical Services, you will be responsible for designing, monitoring, and improving Porgera's underground ventilation system to ensure a safe, healthy, and productive work environment. The role also leads key underground infrastructure projects, providing technical direction and execution support to align with production and safety objectives. Responsibilities include developing ventilation plans, conducting surveys and airflow assessments, maintaining models, and integrating designs with mining schedules. The engineer monitors system performance, recommends improvements, manages budgets and contractors, and ensures compliance with safety, health, environmental, and regulatory standards. Additionally, the role involves mentoring junior engineers and national staff to build long-term capability.

You will model safety behaviours and coach and develop your team, working with your team to assess and manage risk.  NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with strong ability in delivery to support the mines successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely and safe manner.

About You

As the successful applicant, you will hold a Bachelor's degree in mining, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline, with a minimum of ten (10) years' underground mining experience, including 3–5 years in a senior ventilation or project engineering role. Candidates should have strong technical expertise in underground ventilation design and management, proficiency with ventilation modeling software, and experience managing infrastructure projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and contractor oversight. The position demands a solid understanding of mine health and safety legislation, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and proven leadership and mentoring ability in multicultural, remote FIFO environments. Experience in large-scale hard rock mines, preferably gold, and eligibility to work in PNG under FIFO conditions are essential, along with a high commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

This role is offered on a FIFO basis either from Papua New Guinea or Australia/New Zealand with a 21/14 roster on a contract basis with a highly competitive remuneration package.
