Working to protect the state's environment and heritage.
About the Role
Our national parks are extraordinary places. They make up more than 9.5% of New South Wales across various desert, forest, alpine and coastal ecosystems. Around 85% of approximately 900 threatened species in New South Wales are found on the national park estate. Measuring ecological health, and linking this to our investment in management actions, is the key to delivering effective conservation for our national parks.
National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Manager Ecological Health to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora and fauna. Central to this is the implementation of a World-leading Performance Scorecard initiative that will systematically collect and report on ecological data to support adaptive and effective park management.
About You
You will have the skills and experience to lead the design and delivery of a comprehensive eco-health monitoring program across eight sites representative of the varied ecosystems across New South Wales. You will be expected to support the establishment and ongoing management of best practice and innovative systems, plans and processes. You will be an accomplished project manager, equally at ease developing new monitoring technology, providing expert briefings to senior executives or in the field deploying survey equipment.
NPWS is committed to building a robust pipeline of talent and ensuring strong representation of women in leadership roles. We aim to achieve a balanced and diverse leadership team. As such, we strongly encourage female candidates who possess the necessary capabilities and experience for these roles to apply.
Essential requirements
- A relevant degree / tertiary qualification in environmental science, ecology or related field and a strong understanding of ecological monitoring principles.
