About the team
The Environmental Management and Assessments team provides technical expertise primarily to the City of Gold Coast's Infrastructure department. Team members form an integral part of core project teams and provide expert guidance on environmental aspects, impacts, mitigation, and design to avoid impacts to the environment where possible. The Team's currently focused on providing environmental impact assessment management, coordination, and technical skills for projects related to sewerage and solid waste management, as well as a number of the City's strategy program portfolio. We are responsible for coordinating all necessary statutory approvals for the City's projects, and assisting and guiding projects through construction to ensure the environment is protected throughout the project lifecycle.
The team sits within the Environmental Improvement and Compliance business unit, under the Environment, Heritage and Resilience department.
About your new role
The Environmental Lead is responsible for leading environmental advice, impact assessment, and coordinating statutory approvals for infrastructure projects. This includes complex infrastructure approvals and amendments to the City's operational licences for sewerage and solid waste infrastructure assets. The role also involves mentoring junior members of the team and supporting the Coordinator Environmental Management and Assessments in providing technical advice to the Organisation on environmental science matters, such as ground and surface water quality, acid sulfate soils, and contaminated land.
We're looking for people who have:
An Environmental Science degree (or equivalent science degree) with honours as a preference and a minimum of 7 years' experience working in environmental science positions. You should have demonstrated experience working within the Commonwealth and Queensland statutory approvals systems and a strong understanding of environmental and planning legislation. Experience in working in multidisciplinary teams to deliver EIS-type projects is highly favourable. Field experience collecting scientific data, such as contaminated land, water quality, or ecology and strong written and reporting skills will be highly regarded.
