Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced
PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA)
to support, manage, and maintain our mission-critical database workloads. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance, high availability, data security, and compliance of our PostgreSQL environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain PostgreSQL database management systems (DBMS).
  • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement performance tuning solutions.
  • Ensure data integrity and security by enforcing access controls, encryption, and backup protocols.
  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as backups, indexing, vacuuming, and archiving.
  • Develop, test, and implement database recovery and disaster recovery (DR) strategies.
  • Collaborate with application development teams to design schemas, write efficient queries, and optimize performance.
  • Analyse, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and policies.
  • Provide recommendations for database capacity planning and future scalability.
  • Stay updated with the latest PostgreSQL features, tools, and best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in a production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL installation, configuration, and upgrades.
  • Proficiency in performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies.
  • Experience with backup, recovery, replication (streaming/logical), and clustering techniques.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems and shell scripting.
  • Knowledge of database security standards, access management, and auditing.
  • Hands-on experience with tools like
    pgAdmin, psql, monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios)
    .
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in Agile/DevOps environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud-hosted PostgreSQL (AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or GCP Cloud SQL).
  • Exposure to automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, or similar).
  • Knowledge of additional databases (MySQL, MongoDB, Oracle, etc.) is a plus.
