About Ordermentum
At Ordermentum, our purpose is to create a more sustainable food and beverage industry, by helping venues and suppliers trade smarter. Since launching in 2014, we've grown a massive network of 46k of your favourite cafes, restaurants, and bars (over half the venues in the country) ordering with 1,000 local, wholesale suppliers.

After a closed Beta through 2024, we launched Omni, our first major AI product that has had an immediate impact helping supplier businesses process off-platform orders automatically - saving customers 30+ hours monthly with 80% reduction in manual data entry. Following this success, we've decided to invest and hire more of the right people to ideate, prioritise, prototype and deliver our next wave of AI products and transform how the entire Australian hospitality industry operates. The role

The craft of engineering is changing fast in the GenAI era. At Ordermentum, we're not looking for someone to just ship features. We're looking for a hands-on builder who can turn cutting-edge models into real products and workflows at scale. You'll lead AI projects from idea to production, experiment rapidly with new models and tools, and design systems that make AI reliable, safe, and magical for our customers. With strong foundations in software engineering and a curiosity for what's next in AI, you'll help us evolve into an AI-native product organisation.

What You'll Do

• Lead AI projects end-to-end — from the ideas we've prepared to identifying and pitching the next best opportunities to experiment with
• Collaborate with product, data, and design teams to shape requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions
• Develop and maintain backend components (Python + TypeScript) that bring AI-driven features to life across our platforms
• Integrate with LLMs (GPT-4, Claude, and others) to create innovative, production-ready solutions
• Take prototypes from our Data team and productionise them into scalable, customer-facing features
• Design evaluation frameworks to measure performance, accuracy, and safety of AI models
• Stay flexible in your stack - using the right tech for the problem at hand, from backend services to cloud infrastructure
• Be hands-on with AI developer tools (Claude Code, Copilot, Coderabbit, etc.) and help shape our tooling strategy
• Run weekly rapid testing and iteration cycles with design, data, engineering, and go-to-market teams

Required Experience And Skills

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in a SaaS/Product company
• Proficiency in Python and TypeScript
• Strong communicator who can influence change through technical expertise, knowledge, and coaching
• Hands-on experience with LLMs and applied AI/ML (e.g. NLP, document processing, recommendation systems)
• Comfort working with probabilistic systems and non-deterministic outputs
• Pragmatic and bias-to-ship: thrive in ambiguity, value iteration over perfection
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerised environments
• Positive, can-do mindset with urgency and resilience — we're a small team that loves seeing each other win

Nice-to-Have

• Passion for food, coffee, or hospitality and an understanding of small business dynamics
• Experience in supply chain, ordering systems, or marketplaces
• Exposure to product management or UX design
• Knowledge of data governance, privacy, and responsible AI practices
