Six Degrees is recruiting on behalf of the largest Bio-Security Program in QLD's history tasked with fighting an invasive species in the recruitment of two Principal WHS Advisors. This program has a large "field staff" work force often on the front-line in contact with landholders and community members engaging in surveillance, detection, and treatment activities in varied environments. Working within Program Support Services, you will be part of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strong leadership in the development and implementation of strategic and operational HSW matters.
- Assist to lead, manage and supervise a small team, fostering and committing to workplace safety and maintaining quality practices and initiatives in conjunction with Health and Safety representatives.
- Provide expert knowledge and advice to a range of key stakeholders, including the NFAEP management team regarding strategic and operational HSW risk matters.
- Work collaboratively/consultatively with the Departmental Corporate HSW team in the development and implementation of health, safety and wellbeing strategies and initiatives for the NFAEP.
- Develop HSW systems, processes and reporting functions to identify trends and develop strategies and programs to improve the NFAEP HSW performance.
- Develop and implement HSW programs that align with the department's safety management system to support effective practices within the NFAEP, including delivery of initiatives to effectively identify hazards, mitigate risks and improve overall system performance.
- Lead the development and implementation of organisational change strategies to embed a culture of zero harm and improve the overall HSW performance at managed facilities and in the field of operation.
- Conduct HSW audits and inspections at depots and in the field of operation.
- Support Managers, Trained Safety Advisors and Health & Safety Representatives in "Best Practice" Safety process and improving the organisational culture.
Essential requirements for this role are:
- This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle, and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided before commencement of duty.
Highly Desirable to this role are:
- A tertiary qualification in a related discipline such as health and safety, human factors or human resources;
- Accreditations such as Lead Auditor (ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO as well as qualifications/experience in incident investigation, would be well regarded.
- Previous experience in a similar role within Queensland Government or Public Sector
Term of Engagement:
The term of contract engagement the department is currently seeking up to six (6) months with possible extension/s
Please note: Whilst this role will be based in Berrinba, occasional travel to various depots within SEQ will be required.
