The Role
The Principal Closure Business Planning drives strategic integration of closure planning into the business planning cycle across Glencore Zinc operations globally. This role provides leadership and technical oversight of closure-related risks, cost forecasting, and governance processes, ensuring adherence to corporate guidelines while aligning with long-term asset and financial strategies. The Principal serves as the subject matter expert, bridging operations, finance, environment, and project development teams to deliver sustainable closure outcomes.
Key Requirements
This role requires a strategic leader with the ability to develop and embed a consistent closure planning methodology across Glencore Zinc operations globally, aligning objectives with broader business strategy and operational planning cycles. You will bring expertise in integrating closure outputs into Asset Retirement Obligation and Life-of-Asset models, while ensuring studies are delivered in line with the Capital Management Framework.
Strong stakeholder management skills are essential, as you will coordinate site and regional submissions, facilitate governance committees, and act as the primary liaison between operational, regional and corporate teams. The role also requires capability in driving comprehensive closure risk assessments, identifying value-creation opportunities such as land repurposing or community reinvestment and building organisational knowledge through training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
The successful candidate will have:
A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field;
Extensive experience in the mining industry, with a minimum of 5 years in closure planning or environmental management;
Proven track record in developing closure governance frameworks and influencing cross-functional stakeholders on technically complex, financially significant decisions;
Advanced skills in strategic planning, risk assessment and communicating complex technical and financial information to executive audiences and external stakeholders.
