Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. Harmony is currently preparing to progress the Execution Phase of the Eva Copper Mine Project in Queensland, Australia. These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Principal - Business Improvement to join our team based in Milton, Brisbane.

Reporting to the Business Improvement Manager, you support and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement across Harmony Australasia's processing and operational projects by identifying, developing, and implementing initiatives that enhance safety, productivity, cost-efficiency, and sustainability. The Principal - Business Improvement will assist in applying the Harmony BI framework, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and empowering teams to innovate and collaborate.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

Strategic & Operational Alignment

  • Support the development and execution of BI plans aligned with site and corporate strategy, including the Future of Mining roadmap.
  • Collaborate with the Brisbane teams and site leadership to integrate BI initiatives into planning, budgeting, and operational systems.

Initiative Management

  • Assist cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact improvement projects across processing and operational areas.
  • Apply methodologies such as Lean, TOC, Agile, and Six Sigma to solve operational challenges.
  • Ensure initiatives are tracked, measured, and reported through appropriate systems (e.g., MOS, Ripple, Wave).

Capability Building

  • Support BI training programs for frontline and leadership teams.
  • Encourage use of BI tools and frameworks across departments.
  • Support development of value chain models and process mapping exercises.

Culture & Engagement

  • Support a mindset of ownership, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Create safe spaces for innovation and learning from failure.
  • Celebrate successes and promote transparency in improvement efforts.

Technology Integration

  • Coordinate with digital and technical teams to embed technology into BI initiatives.
  • Support deployment of digital twins, automation, and data analytics platforms.

Site Engagement

  • Occasionally travel to operational sites to support BI program implementation, training, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Assist in workshops and improvement sessions on-site to ensure alignment and momentum.

About you:

To succeed in this role, you will have excellent communication skills and hold the following qualifications and experience:

  • Engineering/Financial/Commercial tertiary education
  • 5+ years' experience with Six Sigma, Lean, or Agile methodologies
  • Advanced data analysis skills
  • Experience supporting business improvement initiatives
