Samford Emergency Vets (SEV) is an independent newly established and privately owned Emergency Centre founded by Dr Leigh Hanlon BSc BVSc MANZCVS and is dedicated to providing compassionate around the clock emergency and general care for the small animals of Samford and beyond while providing overnight/weekend support for surrounding/referring general veterinary practitioners.

SEV is uniquely located on 1.5 acres in beautiful downtown Samford Valley. A palm tree lined paradise called Samford Palms.

It has been built from the ground up by Dr Leigh Hanlon whose sole vision for the last 30 years has been to provide dedicated and focused general practice care during the day and after hours and emergency care throughout the night and over the weekends to the small animal patients of the Samford Community and beyond.

What SEV is looking for or What Do We Need From You
- A degree in Veterinary Medicine and registration to practice in Queensland, Australia
- A minimum of 3 years' experience as a veterinarian
- Comfortable handling sole charge in regard to all veterinary responsibilities
- Experience in emergency and critical care is desirable, however if you have a great attitude and want to learn we want to hear from you
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to delivering compassionate and high-quality veterinary care with care for both the patient and their owners.
- Highly developed customer service skills
- Organisational and multitasking abilities
Your Role Is?
As a Vet at SEV, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality care in a dynamic and supportive environment. Based on your role of General Practitioner or ECC veterinarian, your responsibilities will include:
- General practice Vets : provide routine health care, including vaccinations, parasite prevention, wellness checks, and dental care, as well as diagnosing and treating common illnesses and injuries. Manage chronic conditions, and give advice on nutrition and behaviour.
- Emergency Vets : Responding promptly to emergency cases that come in during the day, night/after-hours which will include the spectrum of emergency cases from snakebites, tick and other toxicity's, trauma/fractures/stitch-ups, emergency laparotomy's, GIT and repro emergencies, and other medical emergencies. It will also include providing overnight care to existing medical and surgical patients from surrounding general practitioners that need supervision overnight and will be returned the following morning.
- Critical Care: Providing intensive monitoring and treatment to critically ill patients, including those recovering from surgery or suffering from severe medical conditions.
- Diagnostic Expertise: Triaging and applying through examinations and appropriate diagnostics for critical care treatment of each patient within our care.
- Surgical Interventions: Performing standard elective surgeries and emergency surgeries when necessary, such as wound repair, laparotomy's, C Sections etc.
- Client Communication: Effectively and respectfully communicating with pet owners regarding their pet's condition, treatment options, prognosis, and any concerns they may have.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintaining accurate medical records and documenting all treatments, observations, and communications relating to patient care.
- Continuous Learning: Candidates are expected to be up to date with their continuing Veterinary education.
- Team Support: Vets are expected to provide mentorship and guidance to all support staff working overnight shifts, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment. Encouraging a happy and healthy working environment.
- Sanitation and Organisation: Ensuring the cleanliness and tidiness of work areas, including examination rooms, surgical suites, and treatment areas, to prevent the spread of infections, promote a safe environment for both patients and staff, and support efficient workflow during emergency situations.
