About the role:

The
Technical Services Engineer
delivers expert support to underground operations across the WAM region, driving
blast optimisation
,
product stewardship
, and
customer engagement
.

Partnering with site teams, the role ensures safe, efficient, and innovative blasting practices that meet both operational goals and compliance standards.

From blast design and performance analysis to misfire investigations and new tech trials, this role turns technical excellence into real-world impact—enhancing customer outcomes and fueling Orica's growth.

What you will be doing:

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote and adhere to site safety standards and SHEC initiatives.
  • Ensure regulatory and product stewardship compliance in all technical activities.
  • Prepare and contribute to incident and misfire investigation reports.

Technical Execution

  • Design and execute underground blasting projects, including production and development.
  • Provide advanced support for electronic initiation systems and remote firing setups.
  • Analyze blast data, investigate misfires, and recommend technical improvements.

Customer & Team Engagement

  • Build strong technical relationships with customers and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Train and accredit customers on Orica's products, systems, and technical modules.
  • Mentor site personnel and document field learnings through case studies.

Project Delivery

  • Manage and deliver technical projects safely, on time, and aligned with objectives.
  • Support trials and implementation of new blasting products and technologies.
  • Conduct performance reviews and ensure continuous improvement.

What you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of blasting principles, explosives application, and underground mining processes.
  • Skilled in drill and blast design, initiation systems, and performance assessment techniques.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to engage technical and operational teams.
  • Experience in drill and blast execution, including underground charging and shotfiring.
  • Proven ability to manage technical projects and implement blasting solutions.
  • Proficient in risk assessment and troubleshooting in dynamic mining environments.
  • Familiarity with Orica's technical software and digital tools. (Desirable)
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or willingness to obtain).
