About Ozcare

Ozcare is a leading not-for-profit organisation dedicated to delivering high-quality health care, aged care, retirement living, and disability support services across Queensland. Established as a special work of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland, Ozcare is inspired by the Vincentian spirit and guided by a mission to support clients in living their best lives through compassionate, professional, and personalised care.

Operating for over two decades, Ozcare now employs more than 5,000 staff (volunteers included) and supports more than 30,000 Queenslanders each year. The organisation provides a wide range of services including 19 residential aged care facilities, a hospital, five-day respite centres, 8 retirement living communities, and comprehensive in-home support and health services. With its headquarters in Brisbane, Ozcare's services are delivered exclusively within Australia.

Ozcare's values, Integrity, Respect, Empathy, and Compassion – form the foundation of its culture and inform every aspect of its operations. The organisation maintains a strong commitment to accessibility, ensuring that those on lower incomes are not excluded from care. Through strategic development, including the planned expansion of retirement living on existing sites, Ozcare continues to meet community needs in a financially responsible and sustainable way.

As a significant purchaser within the local economy, Ozcare engages with a wide range of suppliers, from food and medical products to construction and professional services, to support its operational and infrastructure goals. With a clear vision for future growth and a deep commitment to service excellence, Ozcare is well-positioned to navigate sector reforms and continue leading with integrity, purpose, and care.

About the role:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a critical member of Ozcare's Executive Leadership Team, responsible for the organisation's financial stewardship, commercial performance and long-term sustainability across a diverse and growing portfolio of aged care, community services, health and retirement living operations.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO operates as a trusted strategic partner to the CEO and Board, providing insight, challenge and leadership across all financial and commercial matters. The role encompasses end-to-end responsibility for financial strategy, governance, prudential compliance, investment oversight, treasury, and operational finance, while also playing a central role in enabling organisational transformation and growth.

This position requires a contemporary, values-led financial leader who can navigate increasing regulatory complexity, sector reform and funding change, while maintaining a strong focus on financial discipline, transparency and long-term resilience. The CFO will lead a multi-disciplinary finance function, uplift capability and culture, and ensure the organisation's financial systems, processes and reporting are fit-for-purpose to support scale, efficiency and high-quality service delivery.

As Ozcare continues to evolve, the CFO will be instrumental in supporting acquisitions, major capital and investment decisions, and enterprise-wide initiatives including systems implementations and workforce transformation. This is a highly influential role requiring strong commercial acumen, sound judgement and the ability to balance mission, risk and opportunity in a dynamic, highly regulated environment.

Specifically, key accountabilities include:

  • Lead Ozcare's financial strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities, mission, values and long-term sustainability.
  • Act as a trusted strategic adviser to the CEO and Board, providing expert insight on financial performance, investment strategy, risk and growth opportunities.
  • Drive advanced financial modelling, scenario planning and long-term forecasting to support informed decision-making in a changing regulatory environment.
  • Ensure strong financial governance, compliance and prudential oversight, including accurate reporting, audit readiness and adherence to aged care financial requirements.
  • Oversee treasury, liquidity, cashflow and capital management, including stewardship of Ozcare's investment portfolio in line with Board-approved risk appetite.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing, values-led finance function, uplifting capability, accountability and succession across all finance disciplines.
  • Own enterprise budgeting and forecasting processes, including the critical February–March budget cycle and ongoing performance reporting.
  • Provide commercial leadership across growth initiatives, including acquisitions, due diligence, valuation, integration planning and post-acquisition performance.
  • Partner closely with operational leaders to support cost efficiency, workforce strategy, funding optimisation and service performance across a multi-site organisation.
  • Deliver clear, credible and strategic financial reporting and insights to the CEO, Board, Committees and external stakeholders, including regulators, auditors and financiers.

The CFO:

Ozcare is seeking a values-driven, commercially astute CFO with significant experience operating in complex, regulated environments. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical capability, sound judgement and confidence to influence the Board and executive level, while remaining grounded in humility and purpose.

While experience in aged care, health or human services is highly desirable, candidates from other large, mission-led or regulated organisations will also be considered.

A CA or CPA qualification is essential, along with demonstrated experience in financial governance, investment oversight, M&A and executive leadership.

Above all, this leader will align strongly with Ozcare's mission and Catholic ethos, bringing integrity, empathy and compassion to their leadership while ensuring the organisation remains financially strong, resilient and sustainable.
