About the Role

Blacktree Technology is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to join our team. This permanent position is available in Canberra or Perth and plays a critical role in ensuring our Defence programs achieve defined budgets and milestones.

Blacktree Technology is an innovative solutions integrator working with leading edge radio and satellite communications technology to connect people and organisations across the globe. Blacktree's expertise covers all RF bands and technologies from HF, through to Commercial & Defence UHF, Satellite and Microwave.

We specialise in solving mission-critical communication problems in challenging and geographically diverse environments.

Supporting critical Defence programs, our team specialises in both new and legacy communication technologies. We provide comprehensive services, including the design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of communication systems.

The responsibilities of the role will include, but not be limited to:

  • Develop and maintain program and project work breakdown structures (WBS) and dictionaries.
  • Develop and maintain fully resourced, integrated project schedules, while also managing budgets and forecasts.
  • Perform earned value analysis, cost and schedule variance tracking, and interpret performance metrics to advise corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to estimate resource needs, cost, and timelines; and prepare regular, clear status reports, dashboards, and executive summaries, highlighting trends, risks, and budget projections.
  • Maintain scope, cost, and schedule baseline control and manage change requests, ensuring project baselines reflect approved updates.
  • Identify risks, particularly cost, resource and schedule risk, propose mitigation strategies, and integrate these into control processes.
  • Develop supplier statements of work and integrate, monitor, review, and provide feedback on supplier schedules, pricing and progress.

What you will need to succeed

Blacktree Technology invites applications from candidates who can satisfy many of the following criteria:

  • Proven experience in Project Controls, Planning, Scheduling or related roles with skills in project planning, estimation, resourcing, cost and schedule analysis, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Large Australian Defence engineering and technology program experience, or exposure, and can develop contract artefacts
  • Innovative, resourceful, adaptable, and thrives in dynamic environments, can think critically and craft solutions amidst uncertainty.
  • Proactive and hands-on, can challenge established practices to drive continuous improvement, collaborate and communicate effectively with senior leadership, team members, customers, and suppliers.
  • Proficiency with Deltek Open Plan Professional, Atlassian Jira, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word, Visio)
  • An Australian citizen, or with the right to work in Australia, capable of obtaining a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
