Our APAC Hydrology and Hydrogeology Team
Our 50+ person Hydrogeology and Hydrology (H&H) Technical Discipline is one of the largest in SLR Australia and as such is core business. Our business plan has expansion and enhancement of core business at the heart, and in line with that plan we have created this role as a result of a period of growth, which is opening up further opportunities to expand and invest.
This role is for a lead for our national Groundwater Modelling team, a virtual team of 11 people across our Brisbane, Melbourne and Wollongong offices delivering and growing our Groundwater Modelling Practice. As a virtual team this role can be based any of SLRs offices. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with our state-based groundwater and surface water team leaders to deliver solutions for our clients. Additionally, the candidate will work directly with the Technical Discipline Manager (TDM) and Hydrogeology Technical Directors to implement our business plan that aligns with our global strategic priorities – expanding and enhancing the core, investing and accelerating the emerging, and experimenting and validating the future.

We Work In a Collaborative Environment Across Our H&H Teams In Brisbane, Townsville, Newcastle, Wollongong, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth And Closely With Other SLR Environmental Specialists. The Group Delivers Projects Across SLR's Market Sectors Including Mining & Minerals, Built Environment, Infrastructure, Industry And Power. Our 2025 Project Focus Is On
- Resource projects for a variety of commodities through the complete Project life cycle.
- Expanding our portfolio in infrastructure and energy (renewables)
- Leveraging our groups status as SLR's Global Centre of Excellence, following very successful international collaboration with our global offices, to do even more overseas work.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for groundwater leader. You will have excellent team coordination and management skills and know how to motivate your staff and develop their careers. You will have excellent client relationships and strong commercial acumen. Technical excellence will be your core value and you will thrive in a dynamic consulting environment.
We are open to investing in future leaders who have the technical hydrogeology experience but are early in their people management career, as well as experienced leaders looking for a change. Our large team and autonomy to grow the business in different ways means we can be flexible in shaping this role to fit the right candidate.
To Be Successful In This Role You Will Need
- 7-20 year's + industry experience as a hydrogeologist, including consultancy experience
- An appropriate Engineering or Science tertiary qualification
- A strong technical background in numerical modelling, hydrogeological conceptualisation, groundwater impact assessment and hydrogeological investigation
- A thorough understanding of Australian groundwater legislation and guidelines related to resource development and infrastructure projects, a working knowledge of State groundwater legislation, policies, standards and guidelines would be highly regarded.
- A strong commitment to Health and Safety
- Demonstrated experience managing and delivering large technical projects particularly complex groundwater modelling projects.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivation and ability to work effectively within a team
- Excellent communication and technical report writing skills
- Demonstrated experience successfully mentoring junior staff in preparing quality reports on time and within budget
- Experience in successfully collaborating with related technical staff to deliver project solutions
- To contribute to winning work by identifying and converting opportunities and drawing on your client relationships and business development acumen
- A strong track record in building, nurturing and maintaining ongoing client relationships
- Experience or understanding of the broader water market (surface water resources would be highly regarded)
- Australia Citizenship or rights to work in Australia
