Due to continued company growth, we have multiple opportunities available in the role of Leading Hand at various underground sites located around Western Australia.

The Role

Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the Leading Hand is responsible for assisting the Supervisor with operational requirements in a safe and productive manner, including but not limited to safety, personnel, productivity, maintenance, equipment and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure ongoing productivity targets and safety standards are met.

Role duties include but are not limited to:

  • Address and manage any personnel issues, including but not limited to conducting performance appraisals and ongoing performance management
  • Address and rectify any safety issues on site including but not limited to incidents, audits, investigations etc.
  • Assist / participate in the recruitment and selection of potential employees as required
  • Assist with training Offsiders
  • Attend / conduct pre-shift and other safety meetings
  • Attend production meetings with client
  • Check and authorise daily shift reports (plods) and forward to direct manager
  • Collect and shift samples during drilling process, following correct collection procedures
  • Complete equipment and vehicle prestart checks and submit relevant paperwork
  • Complete maintenance as and when required, ensuring tools and equipment are kept to company standard
  • Complete paperwork as required by site
  • Complete rig and site inspections as required to ensure weekly compliance
  • Coordinate daily drilling operations between Drillers and Mine Geologist to ensure all requirements are met
  • Coordinate the ordering of drilling consumables and supplies, ensure adequate inventory levels are maintained
  • Develop and manage solid working relationships with clients
  • Develop and train direct / indirect reports and crew members in the areas of safe work practices and production including signing off training competencies

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be required to meet the following criteria:

  • At least 5 years' experience in Underground Diamond Drilling
  • Minimum Certificate III in Drilling Operations
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Australian Manual Driver's License
  • Certificate IV Training and Assessing Skill Set
  • Ability to read drill plans
  • Basic computer / administration skills
  • Strong Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Dedicated understanding of and focus on safety
  • Time management and organisational planning
