Financial Controller – Full-Time, Onsite
Location: Inner East Melbourne | Team: 6 | Immediate Start
A highly successful and well-established property and construction group is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead their finance team. This is a full-time, onsite role (no work from home) overseeing all accounting, tax, compliance, and financial reporting for a diverse portfolio of entities.
About the Role
Reporting to the CFO, you will lead a team of 6, driving accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all finance functions. You will be hands-on, stepping in where needed, and ensuring all reporting, project accounting, and compliance obligations are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage accounts team of 6, providing guidance, mentorship, and direction
- End-of-month processes, reconciliations, and review of Balance Sheet & P&L for multiple entities
- Prepare group consolidated management reports, project costing reports, and intercompany reporting
- Manage taxation compliance, BAS, IAS, FBT, and Division 7A
- Coordinate year-end financials, audits, and liaison with external tax advisors
- Maintain accurate registers: assets, bank guarantees, GST withholding, hire purchase, insurance, legal documents
- Supervise banking, payments, invoicing, and debtor/creditor management
- Hands-on support with project accounting, including job/project costing, CSV reporting, and analysis
- Support system improvements and efficiency initiatives, including Attaché software and Estate Master
- Step in to cover team responsibilities as needed
About You
- 10–15 years' accounting experience across project accounting, management accounting, and financial accounting, with some experience as a Financial Controller or ready to step up into this role
- Big 4 or similar experience
- Property, construction, or development experience highly desirable
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or similar with CPA/CA qualification or currently working towards
- Advanced Excel skills, reporting, spreadsheets, CSV file management
- Attaché software experience highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of family trusts, family office structures, and compliance requirements
- Hands-on, proactive, and able to lead and support the team
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Collaborative team player with attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
- Adaptable to a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
