Power the world – with usCentral West Orana ProjectCobra is part of a consortium including Acciona and Endeavour Energy who have been successful in securing a contract with EnergyCo to design, build, own and operate the first New South Wales Renewable Energy Zone, Central West Orana. The project covers an area of 20,000 sq kms. It will initially entail the deployment of 4.5GW of transmitted electricity, powering 1.8 million homes, which will grow to 6GW by 2038. The project includes 90 kilometres of 500kV transmission lines and 150 kilometres of 330kV transmission lines to connect several renewable energy generation facilities to the grid.Role Overview:The Operator Brake/Winch is responsible for the safe set-up and operation of brake/winch equipment used in the stringing and tensioning of overhead transmission line conductors. This role requires precision, a strong safety focus, and close coordination with rigging and lines teams to ensure stringing activities are carried out effectively.Key Responsibilities:• Operate brake/winch machinery for conductor stringing and tensioning.• Assist with set-up, anchoring and calibration of brake/winch equipment.• Monitor conductor tension and ensure compliance with engineering requirements.• Communicate effectively with riggers and linespeople during live stringing operations.• Perform pre-start checks, maintenance and safe shut-down of winch equipment.• Keep accurate logs of operations and equipment use.• Assist linespeople with installation, maintenance, or repair of conductors and associated electrical equipment under supervision (if required).• Participate in routine inspections or patrolling of transmission lines and equipment under supervision.• Support general site activities when not operating equipment.Minimum Requirements:• AQF Certificate III in Rigging, Plant Operations, or equivalent OR a minimum of three (3) years' relevant full-time experience operating brake/winch equipment or similar plant in transmission line construction or utilities.• White Card (Construction Induction).• Working at Heights and Tower Rescue certification.• Demonstrated experience in tower erection, structural steel or heavy rigging.• Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors at height.• Valid Driver's Licence (MR or HR preferred).• Demonstrated experience in overhead and underground line installation, repair, and maintenance.• Demonstrated strong safety record and knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety.• Intermediate Rigging and Dogging High Risk Work Licences.• Demonstrated experience in brake/winch set-up, calibration, and conductor stringing/tensioning.Highly Regarded:• Certificate II in Transmission Line Construction or equivalent experience in transmission line assembly.• Dogging (DG) or EWP (WP >11m) license.• Transmission Line towers assembly & erection experience• Knowledge of cable back-stay and anchoring systems.• First Aid and CPR certification.• Additional High Risk Work Licences (EWP, Tower Rescue).• Safe Working at Heights.• CPR and First Aid certification.Why Join Cobra:· Competitive hourly rate + applicable project allowances.· Modern Merotherie Camp accommodation with extensive facilities including mess halls, gym, recreation areas etc.· Join a transformative renewable energy project in NSW.· Clear pathways for upskilling.· Strong safety culture and inclusive workplace.RostersRosters will vary depending on project requirements.
