The opportunity
We're looking for a Project Officer to join the Fire Ecology & Preparedness team,who deliver strategic on-ground projects to improve the condition of South East Queensland's environment. The Environmental Project Officer is responsible for implementing contracted project activities related to fire ecology and planning. This includes organising stakeholder and landholder workshops, contributing to fire planning, and participating in fire ecology research initiatives. The Environmental Project Officer reports directly to the Team Lead and is a full-time role, initially offered as a 24-month contract with the potential for permanent position after that period.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Scoping and planning for delivery of revegetation, weed control and erosion control project works
- Delivering a fire ecology & preparedness capacity-building program that includes workshops, field days, and property visits
- Contributing to fire ecology research and monitoring initiatives
- Developing fire management plans for risk mitigation, ecological and/or land management considerations
- Engaging and overseeing sub-contractors in delivery of on-ground works
- Completing project administration requirements including reporting and milestone tracking
- Contributing to project management requirements including detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports
- Analysing technical and project management problems and recommending solutions
- Providing technical and analytical guidance to project works
- Engaging stakeholders, including landholders and community, to negotiate outcomes for assigned project works
About You
Ideally, you will share our vision to lead the change that will deliver an environment for future generations to thrive. You will be highly motivated and can work autonomously in agreed timeframes. To be successful in this role, you will have all or many of the following requirements:
- Qualifications in Science, Environment, Project Management, or relevant discipline
- Experience delivering projects on ground in line with WHS requirements and applying risk management
- Ability to produce and format technical documents, proposals, and spreadsheets
- Excellent knowledge of natural resource management
- High level communication skills, written and verbal
- Knowledge of stakeholder engagement across First Nations, Government, Research, Utilities, and Community
- Current manual QLD driving licence
