About the Role
SGME is seeking a motivated and experienced environmental professional to join our growing consultancy team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a variety of high-impact projects across the mining, infrastructure, and land development sectors. Working alongside a team of scientists, engineers, and environmental specialists, you'll be involved in environmental assessments, field investigations, technical reporting, and the preparation of management plans. You'll also gain hands-on experience in key focus areas such as soil science, geochemistry, mine closure, and environmental rehabilitation. At SGME, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to innovative and sustainable solutions while expanding your technical knowledge and professional capabilities in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
About You
You're a proactive and values-driven environmental professional with 2 years of post-graduate experience and a strong passion for sustainability and environmental outcomes. You hold a Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field, and bring demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: environmental assessments, soil science, geochemistry, mine rehabilitation, or land management. You have excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—and thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. A current driver's licence and the ability to undertake fieldwork are essential. To be considered, you must be eligible to work in Australia.
Why Join SGME?
SGME is a boutique consulting firm founded by a mine closure specialist and professional soil scientist. We work with clients across the mining and minerals sector to deliver technically sound, practical solutions that support long-term environmental performance and sustainable land outcomes. Our workplace culture is built on collaboration, inclusivity, and a shared commitment to innovation and excellence. We offer competitive remuneration, 26 short working weeks per year (nine-day fortnight), and a dynamic office environment in Brisbane with free parking. Team members benefit from structured career development, training and mentoring, and opportunities to work alongside leading professionals in the field. We also encourage staff involvement in local community initiatives, charity events, and industry sponsorships.
