About the role:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the Executive Committee and senior leadership team, responsible for driving the firm's financial strategy, ensuring long-term sustainability, and optimising commercial performance.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO provides strategic financial leadership, governance oversight, and commercial insight to support the firm's growth and operational excellence. This role requires a forward-thinking leader with strong financial acumen, a deep understanding of governance and compliance, and the ability to influence strategy at the highest levels.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the firm's financial strategy to support business growth, profitability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Provide strategic financial leadership, advising the CEO and executive team on financial planning, performance, and key business decisions.
  • Oversee financial planning, forecasting, and performance management, ensuring data-driven decision-making and financial transparency.
  • Manage all financial operations, including treasury, budgeting, capital management, tax, audit, and compliance, ensuring adherence to regulatory and governance standards.
  • Drive commercial strategy, including pricing models, profitability analysis, and cost optimisation initiatives.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks, implementing robust governance frameworks to safeguard the firm's financial interests.
  • Lead and oversee major financial transactions, including funding strategies, mergers and acquisitions, and capital investments.
  • Enhance financial systems, automation, and reporting processes to improve efficiency and business intelligence capabilities.
  • Foster strong relationships with external financial partners, including banks, investors, auditors, and regulators.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing multijurisdictional finance team, ensuring a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with business units and practice leaders to align financial strategy with commercial objectives and operational efficiencies.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, tax, and regulatory obligations, maintaining the highest standards of financial governance.
  • Leverage financial technology, automation, and analytics to enhance financial decision-making and operational effectiveness.
  • Act as a key driver of business transformation, supporting growth initiatives and positioning the firm for long-term success.

Key skills and experience:

  • Significant executive-level experience in a CFO or senior finance leadership role, ideally within a professional service, legal, or corporate environment.
  • Proven ability to drive financial strategy, business growth, and operational excellence at scale.
  • Deep expertise in financial planning, risk management, governance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with a track record of influencing business strategy and driving profitability.
  • Experience leading complex financial operations, including capital management, M&A activity, and large-scale financial transactions.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at board and executive levels.
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate financial insights into business action.
  • Experience leveraging financial technology, automation, and analytics to enhance business decision-making.
  • Experience managing offshore or geographically distributed teams, ensuring seamless financial operations across multiple jurisdictions.
  • CPA, CA, CFA, or equivalent professional qualifications preferred.
