Southern Montessori is a thriving co-educational ELC–Year 9 school guided by the Montessori philosophy. Our Early Learning Centre (ELC) provides a warm, inclusive environment where children aged 3–5 years are supported to grow into confident, independent, and compassionate learners.

We are seeking dedicated Preschool Assistants to join our passionate Early Learning team in 2026. Multiple positions are available.


About the Role

The Preschool Assistant works collaboratively within our ELC team to support the delivery of high-quality education and care consistent with Montessori principles. You will assist the Early Childhood Teacher in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs that nurture each child's developmental, emotional, and social growth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting children to follow the Montessori work cycle and encouraging independence.
  • Providing active supervision and positive behaviour guidance.
  • Preparing and maintaining safe, engaging classroom environments.
  • Assisting with documentation, record keeping, and classroom administration.
  • Participating in professional learning and contributing to a collaborative team culture.

About You

You are a nurturing, reliable professional who thrives in a child-centred learning environment and values curiosity, respect, and lifelong learning. You take pride in your attention to detail, strong communication, and calm, proactive approach.

Essential qualifications & requirements:

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care or working towards (or equivalent)
  • Current First Aid Certificate (including Asthma & Anaphylaxis).
  • Current Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse & Neglect – Education & Care training.
  • Current Working with Children Check (WWCC).
  • Commitment to the Montessori philosophy and a willingness to undertake Montessori training.

Highly regarded:

  • Montessori experience or qualifications.
  • Experience working with children aged 3–5 years.
  • Knowledge of the EYLF and NQS frameworks.
