The Senior Departmental Liaison Officer, Office of the Commissioner, is the first point of contact between the Office of the Minister for Youth Justice and Victim Support and Minister for Corrective Services and the department.
This position is specifically responsible for the exchange and management of all correspondence and advice between the Office of the Minister and the department, dealing with and seeking resolutions for complex problems, working collaboratively with other departmental staff, and providing high quality co-ordination and executive support in relation to ministerial, Commissioner and parliamentary documentation.
- Coordinate the provision of accurate and timely advice between the Office of the Minister and the department.
- Conduct research and analyse issues to ensure the provision of accurate and timely advice to and from the Office of the Minister.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of strategic and policy matters, including contentious issues, as they relate to the department and the broader corrective services environment.
- Assess and propose effective resolutions for complex matters that may arise.
- Assist with the effective and efficient resolution of enquiries and complaints made to the Office of the Minister concerning prisoners, offenders or operations, including identification of trends and emerging issues.
- Provide counsel and advice to members of the public with respect to the resolution of their enquiries and grievances and, where necessary, redirect these to appropriate departmental officers.
- Review and manage information systems and processes between the department and the Office of the Commissioner to ensure deadlines are clearly identified and met.
- Establish the processes for and support the preparation of parliamentary and estimates briefs for the Premier and Minister, including answers to questions on notice or questions without notice, and establish and maintain an effective network of officers who may be called upon to compile, at short notice, responses for the Office of the Minister.
- Ensure that Queensland Corrective Services staff are aware of changes to government policy and ministerial requirements that impact on departmental activities.
- Design and undertake educative training sessions for departmental staff to ensure staff are aware of ministerial expectations for correspondence and briefings.
- Liaise with Departmental Liaison Officers in other departments, as required, to ensure comprehensive advice is provided in a timely manner.
- Liaise with Members of Parliament and their staff in relation to personal representations to the Minister about corrective services issues arising in their electorates.
- Participate as a member of the Office of the Commissioner and provide support to the Chief of Staff and the Ministerial, Executive and Administrative Services unit to ensure the quality and timeliness of information provided to the Minister, including ministerial and executive briefings, correspondence and related government business.
- Represent the department at internal and external forums and ministerial meetings relating to executive and ministerial services.
