Why We Need You
Join us at Central West Local Land Services, the Regional Delivery Partner for the Australian Government's National Heritage Trust program. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced First Nations Cultural Broker to play a pivotal role in fostering meaningful connections with First Nations people and organisations within our region.
What You Will Be Responsible For
As a First Nations Cultural Broker, you will contribute to the improvement and implementation of our Indigenous Participation Plan (IPP) and actively support the delivery of First Nations-related requirements outlined in the Deed. Your role will involve building and strengthening connections, building cultural competency across our team, and identifying areas of mutual benefit for sustainable agricultural practices and natural resource management.
Key Responsibilities
Improving the Indigenous Participation Plan: Work with our regional partner to update the Indigenous Participation Plan (IPP) based on feedback from the Australian Government.
Building Community: Strengthen connections with First Nations people and organisations across the region to build trust and collaboration.
Implementing the Deed: Lead the implementation of First Nations-related requirements in the Deed, including engagement, co-design activities, and respecting Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property.
Cultural Competency Training: Provide training to improve cultural competency, tackle barriers, and build formal partnerships with local First Nations groups.
Cultural Inclusion Strategies: Create and implement strategies to boost First Nations engagement and participation in key projects.
Supporting Employment and Leadership: Help increase First Nations employment and leadership, focusing on knowledge transfer and capacity building.
Meeting Targets: Assist in achieving First Nations employment and supplier use targets set in the Deed.
Communication Channels: Set up and improve communication channels between First Nations communities and Central West Local Land Services, including regular calls, meetings, and site visits.
Finding Mutual Benefits: Identify areas where both the First Nations community and Central West Local Land Services can benefit, promoting sustainable agriculture practices and NRM planning.
Addressing Constraints: Identify and address any constraints, whether they are logistical, time-related, technical, capacity-related, or cultural, to enhance First Nations people's participation.
Essential requirements
- Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1997
- Proven experience in community engagement and collaboration with First Nations people and organisations.
- Advanced communication and community engagement skills, especially in engaging with First Nations community groups
- Proficient project management skills
- Advanced collaboration and teamwork skills including working with small project teams
- Current NSW Class C Driver Licence and the ability and willingness to travel
