About The Team

The emergency team consists of several veterinarians and nurses who work in a 24/7 hospital facility. Emergency and Critical Care specialists provide a trainee and residency program along with training and guidance opportunities for the emergency team members. The hospital also receives afterhours support from various specialist services to ensure optimal care and treatment plans for all animals.

Your New Role

The key purpose of this role is to provide high quality veterinary nursing care to animals in The Animal Hospital At Murdoch University.

Your Key responsibilities will include -

  • Providing all aspects of veterinary nursing care as per the Certificate IV of Veterinary Nursing and the Prescribed Duties of Veterinary Nurses within the Vet Surgeons Act of WA.
  • Triage patients according to hospital policy, by phone or on arrival
  • Oversee patient care in the ICU and patient wards.

What We Offer You

This role is a 7-month Fixed Part time. This attracts a remuneration of $71,904K - $78,826K (pro rata) PLUS shift penalties & 17% employer superannuation contributions (with the option to sacrifice 5.5% of the 17% employer superannuation into your salary).

Shift Penalties applied are for a Salary Veterinary Nurse

Midweek 18:00 - 23:59 Hours - Attracts 115% penalty on base hourly rate - $41.62 p/h - $45.15 p/h

Midweek 24:00 - 08:00 Hours - Attracts 130% penalty on base hourly rate - $47.79 p/h - $52.38 p/h

Saturday Hours - attracts 150% penalty on base hourly rate - $55.14 p/h - $60.44 p/h

Sunday Hours - Attracts 175% penalty on base hourly rate - $64.33 p/h - $70.51 p/h

Public Holiday Hours - Attracts 250% penalty on base hourly rate - $91.90 p/h - $100.73 p/h

Selection Criteria:

  • Completion of a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent, or completion of a relevant Veterinary Nursing Diploma level qualification registrable in Western Australia.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours including rotational shift work, weekends and public holidays
  • Demonstrated confidence and skill when handling and restraining small animals.
  • Excellent organisational, time and workload management skills, including the ability to prioritise workload to meet strict deadlines.
  • Highly effective communication, customer service and interpersonal skills, and the demonstrated ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with staff at all levels of the organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative, assume responsibility for tasks and projects and to resolve problems.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as fitting seamlessly into a team environment.
