Executive Assistant & Electorate Officer based in the MP's Electorate Office in Norwood, SA.
The role requires you to confidently operate with a high level of discretion, autonomy and accountability in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for delivering high quality executive and administrative support to both the sitting Member for Sturt in the Federal Parliament, and to the constituents of Sturt.
Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the ideal candidate will be highly organised and solution-focused, with a collaborative approach and the ability to work with minimal supervision, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, meeting deadlines and delivering excellent service. Tenacity, resourcefulness, patience and the ability to cultivate and contribute to a positive workplace culture are essential. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of success in providing high-level executive support to senior roles in complex environments.
The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:
- Providing high-level executive support to the Member for Sturt, including diary management and travel arrangements.
- Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with constituents, community groups and local, State and Federal government stakeholders.
- Monitoring, assessing and prioritising a high volume of incoming papers, emails, telephone and in-person inquiries.
- Drafting, proof-reading and editing briefs, memorandums and general correspondence accurately and promptly.
- Researching, planning and developing documents such as agendas, minutes and correspondence.
- Assisting with managing enquiries from Sturt constituents in a timely, accurate and professional manner, including by providing prompt and accurate assistance to constituent and community organisations as their first point of contact, whether face to face, by mail, phone, or electronic means.
- Providing excellent customer service and ensuring that constituent enquiries are managed and resolved in a courteous and sensitive manner.
- Liaising with other government agencies and departments to advocate on behalf of constituents.
- Preparing correspondence addressing a range of matters including constituent enquiries for review.
- Creating and maintaining electorate databases.
- Supporting the management of the office budget and the sitting Member's expenses.
The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:
- High level organisational, analytical and conceptual skills with an ability to manage competing and urgent priorities autonomously with limited supervision.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills that produce communications that are well researched, accurate and detailed.
- A track record of collaboration with different business units and diverse stakeholders across a complex organisation.
- An ability to anticipate needs and develop solutions to problems within the scope of the role.
- Strong professionalism and personal integrity with a demonstrated understanding of confidentiality, sensitivity and discretion.
- Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate and form meaningful and productive relationships with a range of stakeholders, including other team members.
- Strong technical proficiency with the Microsoft suite and the ability to use a range of technological platforms.
- Experience meticulously crafting and managing budgets and expense accounts.
- A connection to the electorate of Sturt and an interest in politics (advantageous).
Employment conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement which include:
- A commencing salary between $74,537 and $78,911 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
- An additional optional allowance of up to $13,933 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.
- Relocation assistance, studies assistance, and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

- An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
- The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
- Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
- The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
