What you'll be doing

Reporting into the Manager, Data Governance (within the Virgin Australia Technology Division), the primary function of this role will be to support the development, implementation, and oversight of data governance frameworks, policies, and processes. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams to implement key data governance policies and ensure data integrity, quality, security, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and communication of the organization's data governance framework, including policies, standards, processes, and guidelines
  • Support the development and implementation of AI governance frameworks and Virgin Australia AI committee
  • Ensure data governance processes are adhered to across the organization
  • Monitor and report on the implementation of data governance initiatives and the effectiveness of controls
  • Assess data risks and work with risk management teams to develop mitigation strategies
  • Assist in audits related to data governance and information security
  • Work with Manager to develop and deliver training programs to increase awareness of data governance policies and best practices
  • Act as a point of contact for data governance-related queries and issues across the organisation
  • Develop dashboards and reports that provide visibility into data governance initiatives, data quality metrics, and compliance performance
  • Maintain knowledge of data governance laws, trends and standards, and relevant security and compliance requirements including Privacy Act, GDPR, PCI
  • Foster collaborative relationships with other analysts, business stakeholders, Privacy & Legal, and Information Security to facilitate delivery of key data governance outcomes

You'll be great in this role if you have…

  • An amazing ability to build rapport with stakeholders and influence stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree in data management, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent background)
  • 3 years of experience in data governance, data management, data quality, or a related field
  • Knowledge of or interest in AI ethics, responsible AI practices, and emerging AI governance standards
  • Hands-on experience working with data governance frameworks, policies, and data management tools
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including IT, Information Security, Legal, Privacy, compliance, and business stakeholders
  • Understanding of data governance principles and practices
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Experience working in a fast paced, dynamic environment (ideally within a large, corporate business)
