Nursing Practice Development Unit (NPDU)

The Nursing Practice Development Unit (NPDU) endeavours to promote best possible contemporary quality nursing care of consumers requiring specialist forensic mental health care. The NPDU supports a culture of high-quality nursing practice and development, uses evidence-based approaches to care, promotes evaluation and research, as well as supports the development of clinical governance and accountability of nurses.

The NPDU has responsibility for the coordination, evaluation and ongoing development of the nursing graduate program, the provision of quality undergraduate nursing placements and other nursing programs including the Forensic Education for Registered Nurses training program.

About the Role

The Clinical Nurse Educator: CPR/BLS is responsible for coordinating and delivering the hybrid CPR training model at Forensicare. This includes maintaining the quality and consistency of online learning and overseeing the delivery of face-to-face practical assessments. The role ensures ongoing compliance, maintains training uptake, and supports high standards of clinical safety and education.

The position is based at Based at Thomas Embling Hospital and will require regular travel between sites.

Your primary functions will be, but not limited to

  • Initiation, leadership and/or contribution to practice development projects.
  • Coordinate the delivery of the hybrid CPR/BLS training model, ensuring staff complete the online learning module and attend the annual practical skills assessment.
  • Monitor and support uptake and compliance with CPR training across the organisation, addressing access or engagement barriers.
  • Ensure consistency in practical assessment delivery and adherence to quality and accreditation standards.
  • Review program data (e.g., completion rates, feedback) to inform minor improvements and escalate any significant issues or trends.
  • Contribute to internal reporting on CPR training compliance and outcomes, as required.

Skills and experience

  • A current practising certificate in Nursing, issued by AHPRA Nurses Board of Victoria, with a post graduate qualification in Psychiatric Nursing or equivalent.
  • Experience in nursing education or clinical teaching.
  • Knowledge of legislation and systems pertinent to forensic mental health.
  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience in current psychiatric nursing practice within a range of relevant settings including forensic psychiatry.
  • Proven ability to plan, implement and evaluate training and educational programs in a health care setting
  • Demonstrated capacity to identify service objectives and initiate research and practice development projects
