The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Senior Coordinator, Assessments, to provide a critical role within Assessments, Applications and Panel Secretariat, Post Sentence Branch.
About the Business Unit
Corrections Victoria operates Victoria's adult corrections system, including 11 public prisons, one transition centre, and oversees three privately operated prisons. It ensures prisoners are safely and securely contained and aims to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.
The Offender Services Division of Corrections Victoria is responsible for providing best practice interventions which aim to reduce the risk of reoffending including quality assurance systems for risk assessment and case management, offending behaviour programs, and transition and reintegration supports. The Offender Services Division has responsibility for the post-sentence supervision scheme and is also responsible for the management of post sentence facilities.
The Post Sentence Branch, within the Offender Services Division of Corrections Victoria, provides central oversight and governance of the post sentence scheme and offenders subject to post sentence orders. The Serious Offenders Act 2018 sets out a civil, non-punitive scheme that provides for the ongoing supervision or detention of serious sex and/or serious violence offenders who have completed their sentence and pose an unacceptable risk of committing further relevant offences. Corrections Victoria's end-to-end management and delivery of services to serious offenders on post-sentence orders occurs through a multi-faceted governance and operating model.
About the Role
This position supports the team responsible for ensuring that all offenders convicted of a relevant offence are assessed to determine eligibility for supervision pursuant to the legislation and that recommendations to the Secretary are based on thorough consideration of appropriate information by the Detention and Supervision Order (DSO) Review Board.
Please note in this role you will be exposed to sensitive and explicit material relating to serious sex and serious violent offending on a regular basis.
Some of your duties will include:
- Identify, collate and review complex information for eligible offenders under the SOA, assessing material to ensure completeness; analysing offence histories to prepare accurate summa ries of offending behaviour and risk; and, providing summary information for, and executive support to, the DSO Review Board, including timely follow up on referrals and actions requested by the Board.
- Prepare reports, briefs and correspondence for senior executives in relation to assessments under the SOA, including briefings for the Secretary arising out of DSO Review Board recommendations.
- Provide advice, information and guidance to senior managers, location staff, other Justice agencies and other departments in relation to DSO processes.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated capacity to understand and apply relevant legislation, procedures, guidelines and policies to decision making.
- Capacity to develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to write complex written documentation including briefs to senior executives.
Qualifications
- Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience working in a Correctional environment and/or within a legislative framework is desirable, but not mandatory.
