Your next career opportunity

As a Research Assistant in Orygen's cannabidiol (CBD) research program, you'll play a crucial role in three innovative clinical trials investigating CBD's potential for treating psychosis and anxiety in young people. You'll gain invaluable experience in participant recruitment, data collection and analysis, and contribute to groundbreaking research that could transform mental health treatments. This role offers you the chance to work with world-leading experts in youth mental health while developing your research career in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct Clinical Research : Recruit participants, manage data collection and entry, and assist with ethical compliance across multiple CBD studies.
  • Analyse and Report Findings : Contribute to data analysis using specialised programs and assist in preparing publications and presentations.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders : Develop effective relationships with clinical teams and participate in project meetings and planning activities.
  • Support Research Administration : Assist in preparing ethics documents, manage adverse event reporting, and contribute to the overall running of the studies.

You may be a great fit if:

You are a dedicated researcher with a postgraduate degree in behavioural or social sciences, possessing strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a keen interest in mental health interventions for young people .

You may also:

  • Have a postgraduate degree (Honours, Masters, or progress towards a PhD) in behavioural or social sciences or a related field.
  • Possess strong research methodology skills and experience with quantitative/qualitative data analysis.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration.
  • Have experience conducting interviews and working with databases.
  • Be flexible, well-organised, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Have experience working with young people with mental ill health (desirable).

Your new team – Centre for Youth Mental Health

In January 2009 the University of Melbourne established a new Centre for Youth Mental Health (CYMH) within the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health Sciences, where the academic and professional staff who are provided to Orygen are now based . All NHMRC and ARC Grants to be used for Orygen activities are managed within CYMH .

The creation of this academic and administrative structure reflects the multidisciplinary nature of this field of inquiry and knowledge, and its growing scientific and practical breadth and significance. This is only the fourth such supra-departmental structure to be created in the Faculty and there is no parallel to date anywhere else in Australia.

The Chair of the Centre for Youth Mental Health is Professor Patrick McGorry . Reporting arrangements are through the University of Melbourne structure with a direct report to Professor Jane Gunn, Dean of the Faculty.
