About the Role
This position will provide disaster resilience support relating to recovery planning, targeted community engagement and capacity-building initiatives. A key feature of this position is supporting programs that enhance disaster readiness and recovery and assisting to embed preparedness measures within the community, in particular vulnerable populations. This will include:
- Coordinate meeting and reporting requirements for functional recovery groups by aiding in compiling, formatting and minute taking.
- Assist with the delivery of resilience workshops, recovery programs, events, and education activities to help increase awareness, disaster readiness and preparedness, with particular focus on more vulnerable sections of the community.
- Participate in engagement activities with affected elements of our communities to identify local needs, opportunities, and preferred projects to support community resilience, which will develop and strengthen community resilience and capacity.
This position requires an ability to work after business hours and in locations across the Townsville region.
About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Tertiary qualification in Emergency Management or a similar relevant qualification with sufficient experience in emergency/disaster management.
- Sound experience in a similar related position including demonstrated experience working in a disaster/emergency management setting.
- Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated time management, planning and organisational skills with the ability to respond to changing priorities.
- Experience in multi-faceted stakeholder management and responding constructively to operational challenges.
- Knowledge of the various roles, processes and operations under the Local Recovery & Resilience Plan, Queensland Emergency Management Assurance Framework, the Queensland State and Townsville District Disaster Management Plans and the Disaster Management Act 2003.
- Strong computer literacy with proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Current 'Blue Card' to work in a child-related area.
- Current "C" class open driver's licence.
