The Bunya Peoples' Aboriginal Corporation (BPAC) is seeking an experienced and motivated Wakka Wakka Ranger Coordinator to develop, lead and manage the Wakka Wakka Women's Ranger team. This position will play a vital role in delivering cultural and natural resource management projects across the Darling Downs, with a focus on Caring for Country, community engagement, and strengthening cultural knowledge for future generations.
This is an Identified Indigenous Position. Under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), only Aboriginal women are eligible to apply. There is a genuine occupational requirement for the role to be filled by an Aboriginal person with cultural authority.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the Ranger program, including supervision of the team
- Coordinate the development and delivery of Ranger activities such as cultural mapping, community education, fire and weed management, and cultural tourism initiatives.
- Facilitate community engagement activities, including Healthy Country Planning and cultural mapping with Traditional Owners and community.
- Develop, monitor, and report on workplans, budgets, and team performance.
- Manage operational tasks, including allocation of resources, machinery and vehicle maintenance, and troubleshooting field operations.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety, quality standards, and reporting requirements.
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
- High-level project management skills.
- Qualifications or equivalent experience in Caring for Country, land management, or equivalent.
- Ability to work respectfully with First Nations communities connected to the Bunyas.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent administrative, planning, and reporting skills.
- Knowledge and experience in funding arrangements and managing government contracts.
- Manual driver's licence.
- Blue Card (or ability to obtain).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
