Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Established in 1882, The Australian Golf Club is one of Australia's most prestigious and historic golf clubs, located just minutes from Sydney's CBD. As the host of Australia's national championship 22 times, our commitment to excellence is reflected in our world-class course, facilities, and team. We are seeking a motivated and passionate Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our dynamic turf management team and contribute to the ongoing presentation and conditioning of our championship property.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will play an integral role in the planning and execution of all course maintenance operations. This hands-on, leadership role, is ideal for a turf professional with strong agronomic knowledge, proven leadership capabilities, and a passion for delivering high-quality playing conditions, every day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the daily planning, coordination, and supervision of all course maintenance operations.
  • Lead, motivate, and train a diverse team of greenkeepers and ground staff.
  • Contribute to agronomic programs, including nutrition, irrigation, pest and disease management.
  • Contribute to strategic planning.
  • Operate and maintain a wide range of turf maintenance equipment.
  • Management of bentgrass greens moisture.
  • Ensure WHS policies and standard operating procedures are adhered to across all operations.

Key Requirements:

  • Formal qualifications in Turf Management (Cert III or higher).
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a high performing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cool-season and warm-season turf management practices.
  • Valid Chemical Certificate and Driver's Licence.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to course presentation standards.
  • Flexible to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, and rostered public holidays.

Desirable:

  • Irrigation system knowledge (RainBird).
  • Experience with tournament preparation.
  • Proven success working within team environments, work or sports.
