A Pivotal New Role in Rail Safety Leadership
Join Sydney Trains at a defining moment. We're establishing a new Director, Assurance position to lead our Level 2 assurance function across operational, engineering, and safety-critical activities. This high-profile strategic leadership role will provide essential assurance to Branch leads and the Sydney Trains Executive, ensuring our rail operations meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and reliability.
Your Strategic Impact
As Director, Assurance, you'll be the trusted advisor to executive leadership, providing independent oversight and insight that keeps Sydney moving safely. You'll build and lead a comprehensive assurance framework that ensures risks are identified, assessed, and managed effectively across all operational branches.
Lead With Purpose
- Strategic Risk Leadership – Develop and execute risk-based assurance plans that align with broader organizational priorities and maximize resource effectiveness
- Assurance Excellence – Lead comprehensive assurance activities across Safety Management Systems, Technical Maintenance Plans, and critical control systems
- Performance Insight – Assess the effectiveness of safety and operational performance metrics, ensuring accurate and meaningful reporting to executive leadership
- Framework Innovation – Design and implement governance frameworks that ensure first-line assurance is robust and appropriately escalated
- Team Development – Build and lead a high-performing assurance team with the right skills and capabilities to deliver strategic outcomes
- Executive Partnership – Work closely with Branch leads and the Sydney Trains Executive to provide assurance insights that drive continuous improvement

What You Bring
- High-Reliability Leadership – Proven management experience in high-risk, complex industrial or public sector environments, potentially in heavy engineering industry including Oil & Gas, Mining, Aviation or Consulting
- Assurance Expertise – Deep knowledge of assurance and governance frameworks, with demonstrated success operating these functions
- Analytical Excellence – Ability to deliver insightful analysis, identify root causes, and develop practical solutions across complex programs
- Resilience & Tenacity – Proven ability to lead through complexity and pressure, with a strong track record in collaboration and change management within demanding, high-stakes environments.
- Strategic Credentials – Tertiary qualifications or equivalent senior-level experience in relevant contexts
