Key responsibilities?
As The LM Re Casualty Manager, you will be responsible for the growth and profitability for the Casualty Reinsurance product line across Australia & New Zealand. You'll have distinct accountability for business results and responsible for maintaining underwriting integrity while delivering profitable growth across treaty casualty Reinsurance in the Australia & New Zealand region. You'll lead the marketing, underwriting and placement activities for complex, long tail and large loss casualty exposures, manages relationships with cedants & brokers in Australia & New Zealand. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring the provision of an excellent underwriting service to the broker community both personally and through the supervision of underwriting employees.
- Provide regular coaching and identifying development gaps, mentoring and leading by example whilst ensuring adequate communication across the team.
- Actively promoting and liaising with product lines and business units in order to provide excellent service via the Liberty Integrated Business Unit approach.
- Providing strategic input into product development and marketing plans.
- Reviewing and negotiating policy terms and conditions, assisting with policy wordings and endorsements.
- Preparing branch and portfolio reports for dissemination to senior management.
- Participating in the execution of marketing plans including representing Liberty at industry & social events.
- Compile and present training to brokers and industry stakeholders on relevant topics as required.
- Providing input into the financial and strategic planning process relative to the product line.
About you
- Strong relevant experience in casualty reinsurance underwriting and placement, ideally with direct Australia & New Zealand market experience; experience may be from a reinsurer, cedant (insurance company) or broking environment.
- Demonstratable track record of managing casualty treaty and facultative portfolios and achieving profitable outcomes
- Extensive experience negotiating casualty treaty wordings and reinsurance contracts with international, regional and Australia & New Zealand reinsurers.
- Experience working closely with actuarial, finance, claims and legal teams on casualty exposures and reserving.
- Familiarity with Australia & New Zealand regulatory and prudential considerations and reporting requirements (e.g., APRA and applicable New Zealand frameworks), and IFRS17 implications.
- Proficiency with PC based systems and applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with bordereau/treaty administration platforms and exposure modelling tools.
- Strong commercial acumen.
- Advanced negotiation and influencing skills.
- Advanced stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with exposure analytics relevant to long tail casualty lines.
- Sound financial understanding including pricing, profitability, reserving impacts and capital management.
- Professional insurance/reinsurance qualifications or memberships (e.g., ACII, CPCU or equivalentagility.
