Primary objective

As part of a team provide high quality support and advice and support delivery of projects that assist the NT legal assistance

sector, including contributing to implementation of the National Access to Justice Partnership

Context statement

The Strategic Policy Unit is a specialist team overseeing the development and implementation of significant justice policy

reforms, managing justice sector stakeholder engagement and the management of legal grants. The Strategic Policy Unit is

part of a multi-disciplinary Strategic Policy Coordination Division that together services the Attorney-General's

Department's strategic policy, communication, legislative reform, evaluation and statistics needs.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Research, analyse and advise on the development and review of policy and supporting infrastructure and processes

required to effectively implement the National Access to Justice Partnership

2. Plan and deliver projects in partnership with NT Government agencies, Commonwealth Government agencies and the

legal assistance sector.

3. Contribute to the development of communications and stakeholder engagement processes, systems and structures.

4. Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

5. Contribute to the preparation of high-level correspondence, reports, discussion papers, Cabinet Submissions and

ministerial and Legislative Assembly briefings.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated ability to research, interpret, analyse and evaluate information from diverse sources.

2. Demonstrated experience in project management and ability to successfully drive, coordinate and manage projects and

milestones, critical success factors and actions on time.

  1. Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build and sustain strong business relationships and networks and

collaborative partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders to drive change and achieve quality

outcomes.

  1. Demonstrated high degree of organisational skills and analytical ability together with sound written and oral

communication and negotiation skills that support project deliverables and reporting requirements.

  1. Ability to manage workload to meet government needs and deadlines, to cope with pressure and to work effectively as

part of a small team, within a politically sensitive environment.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications or experience in a relevant field.

2. Understanding of the NT justice context.
