Primary objective Contribute to assisting the exploration and mining industry obtain timely access to Aboriginal freehold land and land affected by Native Title through attendance at statutory meetings, consultation with stakeholders and assistance with the negotiation of agreements.
Context statement Mineral Titles is a multi-disciplined administrative group comprising personnel with geographic information system and data base skills, field personnel with expertise in Aboriginal liaison and culture, exploration and mining industry experience and general administrative staff across a range of administrative officer levels.
Key duties and responsibilities 1.
Assist in facilitating the grant of exploration and mining tenure, ensuring compliance with the legislative and procedural
requirements.
2.
Assist in monitoring and coordination of stakeholder negotiations to ensure the timely grant of exploration and mining
tenure including by attending meetings often on country and case managing applications through the Aboriginal Land Rights Act.
3.
Provide information to a diverse range of stakeholders on the application and grant of mining regarding relevant legislation and indigenous land matters.
4.
Identify obstacles in systems, process and competencies that may inhibit the function in achieving its objectives and timelines and contribute to the development of practical solutions to resolve these issues through providing feedback to the Director.
5.
Develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
6.
Draft correspondence, industry reports and other documentation; undertake a range of projects; ensure corporate
compliance and maintain effective reporting and governance systems in all areas of responsibility.
7.
Actively participate as a full member of the Mineral Titles and broader Mines team.
Selection criteria Essential 1.
Sound knowledge of land tenure issues relating to the maintenance of mineral titles on all land classification across the
Northern Territory.
2.
Sound knowledge of the mining industry in the NT, related land and mining tenure issues and relevant legislation including
the Mineral Titles Act 2010, Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976, and Native Title Act 1993.
3.
Sound knowledge of the relationship between Indigenous people, land and resource issues and an understanding of how
to achieve resolution of titles management issues.
4.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with and provide specialist, authoritative advice to stakeholders both in person and
through the preparation of quality high level documentation.
5.
Proven negotiation skills and ability to establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.

Experience in the mining industry.

Travelling and camping in remote areas.
