Belmont High School is a comprehensive, co-educational secondary school located in the eastern suburbs of Lake Macquarie. The school was established as the first high school outside of Newcastle in 1953 and draws its enrolments from the Belmont, Belmont North, Floraville and Jewells communities. Belmont High School is a proud member of the Belmont Learning Community and Minimbah AECG, working in partnership to improve student outcomes. In 2025, the school recorded 828 students, including 107 Aboriginal students and 7 Special Education classes.
Belmont High School has a culture of success in sport and creative and performing arts, with high expectations for student academic achievement. The school provides an enrichment stream in Years 7-10, and a Senior Learning Hub operates daily, providing support for students in the completion of assessment tasks and study. Students also receive extensive support in accessing School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships and transition to local industry and tertiary study post-school pathways. The Positive Behaviour for Learning program focuses on developing the qualities of respect, responsibility and resilience in our students.
Selection CriteriaApplicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Capacity to work as a strategic and collaborative member of the school executive team, using data to lead initiatives that align with whole-school priorities, explicit teaching, HPGE and quality assessment practices.
- Demonstrated high-level educational leadership skills with the capacity to establish, lead and manage a science faculty, creating a collaborative and high performing team environment to drive excellence in teaching and learning.
- Demonstrated high-level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to establish, build and maintain a positive faculty and school culture and genuine relationships with all stakeholders.
Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
