About the business and the role
SLR comprises over 4,500 staff across our global regions, with 35+ Technical Disciplines covering Engineering, Environmental, Scientific and Advisory Services. In the Asia Pacific region (SLR APAC), SLR has over 1,000 employees located throughout 24 offices. Our globally integrated Mining Advisory Group includes Geologists, Mining Engineers, Metallurgists, Geotechnical Engineers, Civil Engineers, and Environmental Scientists with extensive experience in the mining and exploration industries.
With team members in Australia, USA, Canada, Europe and Africa, SLR's Mining Advisory Group provides advisory services to the mining sector at all stages of project development from exploration and resource evaluation through scoping, prefeasibility and feasibility studies, financing, permitting, construction, operation, and closure and rehabilitation. We provide support to major mining companies, mid-caps, junior mining and exploration companies, financial institutions, governments, law firms and individual investors on the technical and commercial aspects of mineral property development and have extensive experience in all commodities and mining areas of the world.
SLR is seeking an experienced Technical Manager with at least 15+ years' experience to join our APAC Mining Advisory team. Our team is well established from a global perspective and growing from a local perspective in Australia. You will work closely with our APAC team in a key leadership opportunity with plans to keep expanding in 2026. Preferably this position would be based in our Perth office, however consideration for both Brisbane and Sydney would be considered for the right candidate.
In addition to strong technical skills, you'll also have strong communication skills, and be able to deliver clear findings through meetings, technical reports, and presentations to both technical and non-technical people. You will have a broad understanding of the mining industry and the interplay of the sector's technical, environmental, scientific, and financial disciplines. You'll enjoy a flexible and dynamic work environment that is collaborative and client-centric in nature. You'll enjoy passing on your knowledge and mentoring junior staff as the team grows in the coming years.
Job tasks and responsibilities
This role offers significant career rewards and opportunities for expanding technical knowledge. Utilising your extensive experience in the mining and consulting industries, this role will see you take part in:
- The definition and execution operational and growth strategies for the region, working closely with the Technical Discipline Manager and other Technical Managers within Mining Advisory;
- Leadership of the geology and mining functions of the Mining Advisory division in APAC;
- Day-to-day operational direction through the team leads;
- Advancing technical excellence within teams through mentoring and professional development of team members;
- Championing the development and implementation of industry leading technical processes for geological and mining services;
- Pursuit of SLR's One Team philosophy through collaboration with broader SLR functions and across regions to provide service excellence to our clients.
- High levels of market engagement through personal contacts, conferences and broader SLR marketing initiatives;
- The role also requires direct work for clients as well as driving team performance
- Project management and project directorship;
- Undertaking expert technical assessment as part of a project team;
- Report writing and client presentations

Skills and experience
As our new Technical Manager, you will join one of the largest, and most experienced mining advisory teams globally. The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
- Post-secondary degree in geology or mining engineering;
- Circa 15 years' experience, preferably with a background in both operations and consulting;
- Deep experience with international and public disclosure and reporting codes, including JORC, NI 43-101, SK 1300, SAMREC, Competent Persons Reports, and Mineral Expert Reports etc.
- Thorough understanding of the CRISCO reporting codes
- Competent to act as Qualified and Competent Person for public disclosure of Mineral and Ore Resource or Reserve estimation in a range of commodities under country reporting codes (Australia, Canada, USA and Europe most common) will be highly regarded;
- Experience with the independent technical reviews and the preparation of due diligence reports for financial transactions;
- Understanding/experience with the preparation of geological block models for a range of ore types;
- Experience with a range of mine planning approaches from strategic optimisation to detailed design and scheduling;
- Willingness to travel. Travel requirements vary but a typical team member may carry out 3 to 6 domestic or international trips of 3 to 7 days in duration on an annual basis.
