About the Department

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Division

The purpose of Student Support Services is to assist children and young people facing a range of barriers to learning to achieve their educational and developmental potential through the provision of a range of strategies and specialised support at individual, group, school and network levels.

Student Support Services comprise a broad range of professionals including psychologists, speech pathologists, social workers. Student Support Services staff work as part of an integrated health and wellbeing team within networks of schools, focusing on providing group-based and individual support, workforce capability building, and the provision of specialised services.

About the Role

A fixed term opportunity is currently available until the 30th of June 2026 for an experienced Allied Health qualified staff member to lead the Warrnambool SSS Team within the Wimmera South West SSS team. Warrnambool SSS team comprises Social Work, Psychology and Speech Pathology staff. Travel is a required part of the role and fleet vehicles are available.

Key components of the role include:

  • Managing a local team of SSS employees in the delivery of student support services to improve student learning and wellbeing.
  • Collaborating with the Area leadership team to implement evidence based and multi-disciplinary approaches.
  • In conjunction with the SSS Branch Manager, coordinate effective responses to emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Provide professional leadership that supports the work of others and their professional development, including supervision.
  • Manage a small caseload of complex cases and/or complex issues that support schools in meeting Education State targets.
  • Collaborate with Senior Education Improvement Leaders (SEILs) to target service delivery and additional support to schools to improve student learning outcomes.
