Queensland Rail's purpose is to provide a customer-focused, safe, reliable, on-time, value for money rail service that benefits the community, supports industry and is integrated with the public transport system. The organisation's vision is connecting communities through a modern, world-class rail service.
Job description:You'll connect Queensland. We'll connect you to an amazing career.
Queensland Rail has such an exciting future and whilst the way we deliver services may look different in years to come, our commitment to connecting communities will remain unchanged.
Queensland Rail is looking for a Workforce Planning Specialist to join our People Planning team on a temporary full-time basis until 30/06/2026 (with the possibility of extension). This is an exciting time to join our team and be part of delivering an Enterprise Workforce Planning initiative for the organisation, through data-driven practical solutions to workforce challenges such as skills shortages, technological change and major infrastructure projects.
Your Opportunity
You will join a small but ambitious team in a large, complex organisation where workforce planning maturity is still developing. That means real opportunities to shape our direction, bring stakeholders on the journey, and design fit-for-purpose workforce strategies that drive business impact. You'll enjoy the opportunity to partner with the broader People, Safety and Sustainability team and business leaders to:
- Undertake workforce planning activities including workforce segmentation, environment and horizon scanning, and labour market research, to identify critical capabilities and capability gaps.
- Develop actionable workforce plans to meet short, medium and long-term business objectives.
- Assist in developing and implementing processes across the business, by leveraging integrated planning, systems and reporting to understand workforce impacts from changes in demand and supply.
- Maintain and continually improve workforce planning frameworks and tools to ensure consistency and rigour in workforce decisions across the business.
This is an exciting opportunity to grow your career, influence meaningful change, and help foster a forward-thinking, data-drive culture during one of the most exciting times in Queensland Rail's history.
Benefits that Count
All that Queensland Rail achieves each day relies on the hard work and talent of our teams. That's why we offer a range of attractive benefits designed to help you bring your best, including:
- Starting salary of $151,359,240 plus 12.75% superannuation.
- Balance your work and personal life with flexible working options including hybrid working arrangements.
- Enjoy free rail travel on the Citytrain network to and from work, along with discounted rail travel on Queensland Rail Travel trains.
- QRI Lifestyle offers members access to over 2,000 exclusive discounts and services.
- Prioritise your physical, emotional and financial wellbeing with our range of free services.
- You and your family can get fit and have fun with access to over 380 gyms and pools with our Fitness Passport.
About you
We're looking for someone who is:
- A clear and confident communicator - able to translate technical workforce data into insights that make sense to people across every level of the organisation.
- Collaborative and resilient - who thrives working with diverse stakeholders and is energised by solving complex business problems.
- Naturally curious and solutions-focused - someone who sees ambiguity as an invitation to innovate.
- Experienced in strategic workforce planning, with the ability to apply both a system-wide lens and zoom in on what matters most.
- Ideally has experience using some or all of the systems currently utilised by Queensland Rail: Microsoft Excel, PowerBI, SAP, Tableau and Anaplan.
You'll work closely with our operational teams, People and Finance Business Partners, and senior leaders to embed planning capability, influence decisions with evidence-based insights, and help us build the foundations for an enterprise-wide workforce strategy.
