Job Description
This role is ideal for a highly experienced engineer who combines strong application development skills with deep AWS infrastructure expertise. You'll work across the full stack, designing and evolving platform architecture, driving observability and security, and building tools that empower teams to deliver faster and safer.
If you're passionate about crafting scalable systems, owning both code and cloud, and setting the standard for engineering excellence, we'd love to hear from you.
You'll join a lean, empowered team where we prioritise outcomes over process. Our cross-functional squads, Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers, focus on solving real customer and business problems, guided by an MVP, iteration, and "build–measure–learn" mindset.
What you'll do:
- Design, maintain, and evolve our AWS environments for scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across Product, Design, and Engineering.
- Proactively improve platform stability, resilience, and observability to minimise support burden.
- Enhance monitoring, alerting, and visibility using tools like New Relic, CloudWatch, and Prometheus.
- Drive adoption of best practices in CI/CD, automated testing, and modern DevOps workflows.
- Champion software engineering excellence — from clean code to robust architecture and observability.
- Strengthen security and authentication across our platform in partnership with security teams.
- Contribute directly to application code, shared libraries, and developer tooling.
- Lead and participate in architecture reviews, technical discussions, and code reviews.
- Continuously improve developer experience through better tooling, automation, and documentation.
- Lead incident response and recovery efforts to ensure uptime and reliability.
Qualifications
What we're looking for:
- Strong expertise in backend development (ideally, but not necessary , TypeScript) and understanding of microservices architecture
- Experience with AWS and DevOps practices, with a focus on building scalable, reliable systems
- Experience building environments with IAC tools such as Terraform or Pulumi
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases, and the ability to optimise queries and database performance
- A passion for creating a collaborative, learning-focused team environment, where innovation and best practices are encouraged
- Strong problem solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and delivering high-quality solutions that delight customers.
- Lead incident response, coordinate recovery efforts, and minimise downtime
- Focus on Automation
Relevant skills
- Extensive experience as a software engineer with strong backend skills, ideally and TypeScript, and a solid understanding of microservice architecture.
- In-depth AWS expertise, not just using managed services, but designing and automating cloud infrastructure (VPCs, networking, IAM, scaling, resilience).
- Proven experience building infrastructure as code with Terraform or Pulumi.
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and operational excellence.
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and query optimisation.
- Solid knowledge of observability stacks (New Relic, CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose issues across unfamiliar services.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to guide and mentor peers.
- Passion for developer productivity, automation, and continuous improvement.
- A mindset of ownership, curiosity, and technical leadership.
