Provide high quality, culturally appropriate services that focus on the provision of strength based, recovery focussed clinical assessment, treatment and care coordination of consumers who experience complex and/or severe mental health, alcohol, and other drug challenges.
The Role
An opportunity has become available for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker (Identified - Acute Community Mental Health) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.
You will
- Deliver a range of evidence-based interventions in a culturally safe, clinically competent, professional, and effective manner
- Undertake data gathering and reporting skills and using electronic patient management systems
- Effectively communicate with patients community and other groups and organisations, including client and community liaison, negotiation and networking to achieve the best health outcomes
- Utilise your lived experience and knowledge of family kinship, culture, practices, and protocols
About you
To be successful in this position you will require:
- Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
Appointment and future increment progression between pay points HWF3.2 to HWF3.7, or HWF3.8 (limited to employees who meet the requirements of HED 04/23) requires:
- Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, or
- Diploma of Mental Health, or
Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs
Driver Licence
- Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
- Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
- Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

About Us
The Acute Care Treatment Team (ACT) provide 24-hour, 7 day a week specialist mental health care service. This team's role is to be the first point of contact for the GCHHS Mental Health Service to provide education, support, information, advice, and referral. ACT is a mobile assertive outreach crisis response team that offers a range of short-term options tailored to meet individual needs in the community which may also include acute care in the immediate post discharge phase of an inpatient admission.
