About the role:

We run a small contractor business and are seeking an experienced, reliable accountant / bookkeeper (ideally a registered BAS / Tax Agent) to handle our bookkeeping, BAS lodgements, and annual tax return. This role is well suited for a freelancer or subcontractor and is expected to require one regular monthly session plus preparation and lodging of the annual tax return.

Key responsibilities:

  • Monthly bookkeeping (reconciliations, bank accounts, credit cards, journals)
  • Preparation and lodgement of BAS / IAS
  • Year-end annual tax return and liaison with ATO / taxation matters
  • Maintaining and organising books in QuickBooks Online (essential)
  • Occasional financial reporting, cashflow review, and advising on small issues

Skills & requirements:

  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper or accountant, especially for small businesses / contractors
  • Highly competent in QuickBooks Online (or ability to migrate)
  • Understanding of Australian taxation, BAS, GST, payroll (if applicable)
  • Registered BAS / Tax Agent (preferred, but negotiable if strong credentials)
  • High attention to detail, trustworthy, good communication
  • Ability to commit to a regular schedule and deadlines

Remuneration / Rate:

We expect to offer AUD $35–$50 per hour (negotiable depending on experience) or a fixed monthly retainer plus a separate fee for the annual tax return.

Work arrangement / schedule:

  • One monthly meeting (in person or via video call)
  • Work may be done remotely outside that meeting
  • Annual tax return work to be scheduled in advance
