THE OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Manufacturing Manager to join the team and oversee the day-to-day operations of our Cairns workshop. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role combines hands-on leadership with operational oversight, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality output across fabrication, welding, fitting, and auto electrical functions. You will be responsible for coordinating resources, resolving issues quickly, and working closely with your team to make sure every build meets Norweld's standards for quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction. With a data-driven mindset and strong people leadership, you will drive continuous improvement across the workshop while keeping the customer experience front of mind.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Lead and manage daily workshop operations, ensuring productivity, quality, and safety targets are met
• Supervise and support a multidisciplinary trade workforce, including apprentices, qualified trades, leads, and supervisors
• Actively monitor and analyse production data (KPIs, labour, times and quality metrics) to drive efficiency and improvements
• Resolve production and quality issues quickly, maintaining strong visibility of builds throughout the workflow
• Work closely with Procurement, Scheduling, and Sales to align resources, materials, and delivery requirements
• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Ensure compliance with WHS requirements and manufacturing standards
• Provide coaching, training, and career development to staff
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate will have:
• Strong management experience in a manufacturing or workshop environment
• Leadership skills across multidisciplinary trade teams (fabrication, welding, fitting, electrical)
• Practical trade knowledge/qualification and a strong understanding of WHS and Australian standards
•Proven ability to interpret and analyse data to inform decisions
•Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage across all levels of the business
• Commitment to continuous improvement and LEAN manufacturing practices
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems (Jim2 desirable)
• Sound knowledge of 4x4 Makes, Models and popular accessories and brands (desirable)
• Passion for the outdoors, off-roading and camping is a plus
