Primary objective
Provide high level advice to Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services (NTFES) on honours and awards, coordinate significant
events and action the Agency's obligations with respect to recognition and ceremonial matters.
Context statement
NTFES protect the Territory from emergencies and other hazards. The honours and awards function formally recognises individual
achievements, reinforce standards, and promote a culture of excellence.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Coordinate to a high standard all aspects of internal and national honours and awards for NTFES, including establishing new
recognition systems.
2. Provide expert advice to NTFES employees and external stakeholders on matters such as order of precedence, forms of
address, correct salutations, dress code requirements, flag protocol, and use of insignia and emblems.
- Project manage all aspects of ceremonial and event coordination including booking appropriate venues and catering and
performing Master of Ceremony duties as required.
Conduct medal eligibility checks in terms of probity, service dates, and leave without pay periods.
Process recognition requirements for employees who are resigning or retiring from the organisation.
Prepare comprehensive briefings, including running sheets, scripts, speech notes, guides, order of proceedings and ceremonial
programs for each ceremony and/or event taking place.
- Oversee the daily operations of the honours and awards function, provide guidance and support to colleagues, and manage
specialised stock.
8. Monitor and maintain accurate records in agency databases relevant to service and training.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills, proofreading skills and ability to prepare high quality
documents.
2. Proven successful experience in project or event management.
- Proven organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure to manage multiple tasks and demands, while maintaining
strong attention to accuracy and detail.
- Ability to problem solve with flexibility and agility while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality, integrity, and
professionalism.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate and build effective relationships with people of
diverse cultures and both within and outside of government.
6. Demonstrated experience in coordinating tasks, information, and maintaining accurate records and files using spreadsheets,
databases, or records management systems.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of the Australian honours and awards systems.
2. Qualifications in event or project management.
