Hay War Memorial High School is a 6 point, small, rural high school proudly serving the Hay and surrounding community since 1923, on the land of the Wiradjuri and Nari Nari people. There are currently 151 students in the school, with a projected enrolment of 156 in % of our students have an Aboriginal heritage. The school has a single Specialist Support Class catering to students with multi-categorical disabilities. The school is unique in being the only war memorial high school in the Commonwealth of Nations and was established by the community following the end of World War I. The traditions and culture of the school are deeply founded in the expectations of the community. Our school excels in sporting endeavours and agricultural opportunities, in addition to debating and community connection initiatives. The school delivers a compressed curriculum to ensure maximum access to subjects for our students. Hay War Memorial High promotes Positive Behaviours for Learning to support a respectful, responsible and achievement-based focus for students. It is well regarded in the community for its positive learning environment, strong student wellbeing, leadership opportunities, and engagement programs that nurture students to connect, thrive, and succeed. The explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy skills including the use of the learning progressions and formative assessment to monitor progress is integral to driving school priorities. Unearthing student potential, developing the talent and wellbeing programs are initiatives aimed at providing challenge and opportunity for students to flourish. High-impact professional learning for staff that is underpinned by research is key to building the expertise in staff for continuous improvement and leadership.
Selection CriteriaApproval to teach Technology Mandatory (Years 7-8),Design and Technology & Textiles and Design/Textile Tech
A demonstrated knowledge and experience in the teaching of hospitality, including preparing food safely, maintaining hygiene standards, and providing excellent customer service. You understand the importance of following safety rules and food handling regulations to ensure a safe environment for students. You either already hold, or are prepared to obtain, the relevant specialist teaching qualifications needed to teach hospitality subjects. You develop and deliver lessons that are engaging, practical, and aligned with the current curriculum, helping students learn skills that are directly applicable in the hospitality industry.
A proven record of successfully teaching and supporting students from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal students. You actively incorporate Aboriginal perspectives in your teaching, recognizing and respecting their cultural heritage and traditions.
An understanding of Hay War Memorial High School's values of respect, achieve and responsibility. You also appreciate the strong connection the school has with the local community it serves, recognising the importance of building positive relationships between the school, students, families, and community members. You demonstrate a willingness to actively contribute to school life, such as participating in or organising school events.
ConditionsAn unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
