Join Monaro Family Support Service (MFSS) – a trusted, community-based organisation that's been supporting families and building community resilience across the Monaro region since 1978.

We're seeking a Disaster Recovery Project Officer to help strengthen community organisations and boost local disaster resilience through the innovative CODA (Community Organisation Disaster Adaptation) program.

About the Role

Based in Cooma and Jindabyne, with travel across the stunning Snowy Monaro region, this position plays a vital role in:

  • Planning and delivering community-based disaster preparedness activities

  • Engaging and collaborating with local organisations and emergency services

  • Supporting not-for-profits to better prepare for and respond to disasters

  • Promoting the CODA project and strengthening community networks

This is a 12-month, part-time role (28 hours per week), classified under SCHCADS Level 4.1, with flexible working and travel opportunities across the region.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Strong community engagement and stakeholder collaboration skills

  • Experience or knowledge in disaster management and risk reduction

  • Understanding of social disadvantage and the role of local services

  • Solid project coordination and organisational skills

  • Excellent written and analytical skills

  • Cultural competency, including working with First Nations and multicultural groups

  • Relevant qualifications (or equivalent experience) in community development, engagement, or social services

  • Current NSW Driver Licence & Working With Children Check

Highly Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the Snowy Monaro region and relationships with local agencies

  • Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (PCEP) qualification
