Job Purpose & Values
As TDC's Volunteer Manager, you'll lead our national Volunteer Program that engages and supports more than 2,000 volunteers. This is a pivotal role at the heart of our organisation – ensuring our volunteer community is connected, empowered, and ready to deliver safe, seamless, and unforgettable experiences that drive TDC's mission to engage communities, raise vital funds, and ultimately, cure cancer.
The role develops and implements strategies that align volunteers with our goals, while ensuring a safe, supportive, and rewarding experience. It also carries responsibility for compliance with relevant regulations and for championing the vital contribution of volunteers both within TDC and across the wider community.

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Volunteer Program Management
- Design and deliver the TDC volunteer engagement strategy aligned with the TDCs mission and values.
- Develop, implement and manage the volunteer program including recruitment, induction, training, placement, reward, recognition and communication.
- Grow and diversify the volunteer pool while maintaining strong existing networks.
- Provide leadership and support to regional managers and staff coordinating volunteers.
- Drive consistency in volunteer policies, systems, and practices nationwide.
- Align the volunteer program with organisational priorities, including events and committees, and drive collaboration across departments.
Volunteer Engagement
- Foster a positive volunteer experience through effective recruitment, onboarding, training, recognition, and retention initiatives.
- Ensure volunteers reflect the diversity of the community and that programs are accessible and inclusive.
- Act as a central point of contact for volunteer leadership, providing advice, guidance, and problem-solving support.
- Develop and implement an intake and interview protocol for potential volunteers to ensure the best match between the skills, qualification, and interests of the volunteers and the needs of the organisation.
Operational Management
- Oversee compliance with volunteer-related legislation, safeguarding practices, and risk management frameworks.
- Manage national volunteer databases, reporting, and insights to monitor impact and inform decision-making.
- Coordinate national recognition events, campaigns, and communications celebrating volunteer contributions.
- Lead the development and implementation of the Rosterfy system strategy.

- Engagement and retention strategy from Head of P&C
- Event calendar, plans & run sheets
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Significant experience (5+ years) in volunteer management, preferably in a national or multi-site context.
- Experience with a national volunteering system (understanding of Rosterfy would be an advantage)
- Solid experience working in volunteering, training, community development within the NFP sector.
- Exceptionally organised with a sharp eye for detail.
- Strong and confident communicator who thrives in collaborative environments.
- Naturally curious with a proactive, solution-oriented approach to challenges.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with demonstrated ability to inspire and support large volunteer cohorts.
- Excellent knowledge of volunteer best practice, legislation, and risk management in Australia.
- A true team player who also works independently with initiative and drive.
- Adaptable and calm under pressure, able to balance multiple priorities with ease.
- Competence using CRM databases and digital platforms to manage and analyse volunteer engagement.
Working conditions
- You will be provided with a Laptop and Mobile phone to carry out your role.
- The majority of your week will be at our Eveleigh office; however, we have the flexibility to work from home. A minimum of 3 days will be required in the office with Tuesday being a compulsory day.
- This role requires flexibility to work non-standard hours, with recovery policies in place to support team wellbeing.
- Intra and interstate travel will be required during peak event periods.
- You will be encouraged to immerse yourself in or join a TDC event or tour (from time to time as organisational requirements permit) and given this role is within the events team.
